Loading ...ALWIL Software has released their new version of avast anti virus. Avast Free Anti Virus 5.0 continues to improve upon an already proven product from the 4.8 version. The most noticeable change is a much improved user interface. Gone is the radio style interface from avast 4.8 and now we have a color and easy to understand control panel in avast! 5.0.

I tested this on one of my home computers as I wanted to see how long a full scan would take. The first scan took about an hour and a half to test 150 GB’s of files and data. This obviously isn’t a fast scan but it is thorough. One of the cool features of avast! 5.0 is called Persistent Cache. By default, this feature is turned off but if you enable it your future Full Scans will go much faster. Once I used Persistent Cache a full scan took just over 28 minutes to test the same computer.
