Everyone knows they should have a good backup of any important files that are on their computer in case the Hard Drive crashes or the computer is otherwise destroyed by something like a fire, flood, or hurricane. The problem is many people don’t even know where to start to try and create a backup of the files and folders that are important.
Genie Timeline solves this problem.
The first thing you’ll need is a good external hard drive. I like the Seagate model below as it is small and doesn’t require a separate AC Adapter to use. It connects to your computer via a USB port and is powered from the computer. The most affordable model is the 250 GB size and you can buy a larger model if needed.
Once you have your external hard drive you are all set to start using Genie Timeline. It is an easy to use backup program that will provide continuous backups to your external hard drive. It’s a very simple and intuitive backup program that has a three step setup process.
You don’t need to keep your external hard drive plugged in all the time as Timeline will automatically resume when reconnected to the backup drive; no need to even push a button. This is particularly useful if you only want to backup once a week or so and then store your external hard drive in a fireproof safe.
Genie Timeline also has a Disaster Recovery Option that allows you to create a recovery disc in case your computer crashes and you need to recovery your files. Restore your system and data even if your operating system no longer loads. You are given the option to create a bootable startup disk in a virtual partition, USB drive, or ISO image.
Backup a wide variety of data such as E-mails, Documents, Desktop, Office files, eBooks, Bookmarks, Pictures, Videos & Music as well as your iPhone/iPad/iPod and BlackBerry Smartphone. If the data type is not included in the smart selections page you can always use the filters and add any extension you desire.
It’s called Timeline because unlike traditional backup programs where only the most recent files are saved Genie Timeline saves various versions of files over time. The benefit of this is if you need an older version of a file it will be available in the backup.
Genie Timeline runs on different modes depending on PC usage. You can choose to run in Smart Mode which slows down or speeds up according to CPU usage or Turbo Mode which runs at fastest speed. You should select Turbo Mode when doing the initial backup and let it run while you aren’t using your computer for any other tasks. Power Saving Mode slows down Timeline when on the go and Game/Movie Mode pauses backup while playing a game or watching a movie.
