Major Dick Winters

Major Dick Winters, the Commanding Officer of Easy Company of the 506th regiment of the 101st Airborne Division in World War Two, has passed away. Tom Brokaw described Dick Winters as “the quintessential American infantry officer–brave, canny and modest.   His heroic leadership of The Band of Brothers is a one man course on how to become a warrior without losing your humanity.”

If you have never watched the HBO series Band of Brothers I encourage you to do so as it is truly a class in leadership and a great tribute to the soldiers of Easy Company. In keeping with his modesty as a leader Major Winters had requested that the media not be notified of his death until after his funeral was held.  RIP Dick Winters.
