Our wonderful elected officials in Washington are doing their best to not let a good crisis go to waste as they posture and pose for the public and media while continuing to run this country further into the ground. The results are going to hurt a lot more than pulling a band-aid off or eating peas if you don’t like them. Here’s what I would do if I had maxed out my credit limit:
1. Cut Spending across the board. (Yes, that means everyone shares in the sacrifice…no one ever died eating rice and beans instead of eating out)
2. Set a balanced budget at levels lower than what caused them to get into debt.
3. Work an extra job and pay off the debt while not forgetting steps #1 and #2. (Yes, folks…this would be equivalent to raising taxes for the government since the bulk of their revenue comes from taxes).
And once I had paid down the debt I could quit working that extra job. But I doubt we’ll ever see a deal like this crafted in Washington and our taxes are going to go up while our standard of living continues to go down.
