Largest Glacier Calving Ever

An amazing look at the largest glacier ice calving ever filmed at the Jakobshavn Glacier (Ilulissat Glacier) in Western Greenland on May 28, 2008. This clip is from the award winning film “Chasing Ice” which won Excellence in Cinematography at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The calving event lasted for 75 minutes and the glacier retreated a full mile across a calving face three miles wide. The ice is about 3,000 ft high, 300-400 feet above water and the rest below.
