The Marine War Dog Memorial at United States Military Cemetery on the island of Guam honors the 25 war dogs that were killed in action fighting alongside the Marines. The War Dog Platoon conducted over 450 patrols on the island of Guam helping the Marines to find the dug in Japanese soldiers. Dr. William Putney commanded the 3rd War Dog Platoon and earned the Silver Star for destroying an enemy machine gun position and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received. Semper Fi Doc!
