Photographer Slava Veder won a Pulitzer Prize for the photo he took in 1973 of a Vietnam POW reuniting with his family on the tarmac at Travis Air Force Base. The photograph featured United States Air Force Lt Col Robert L. Stirm in what appears to be a joyous moment judging by the faces of his kids and wife. The sad truth is while he had dreamed of this moment during his captivity it wasn’t as joyous as it appears for him as his wife had written him a few days before informing him of her decision to divorce him.
