An Irish Soldier

A wonderful conversation with Jack Campbell of The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 16th Irish Division on The Late Late Show hosted by Gay Byrne in 1988. Hearing him describe his experience during World War One is simply fascinating as he can recount it like it happened just the other day. All wars are terrible but the trench warfare of WWI was brutal and miserable for the soldiers on both sides. If being shot, shelled, and gassed wasn’t bad enough there was the constant battle of dealing with rats in the trenches. Jack was 93 years old at the time of this interview and he passed away four years later at the age of 97. It is an honor to be able to listen to his experience during The Great War.
