The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Dog of the Year award for 2013 is Xena The Warrior Puppy. Xena was found by a Dekalb County, Georgia animal control officer and after recovering from being severely malnourished was paired with eight-year-old Jonny, who is autistic.
