The Flip Ship is one of the coolest ocean going vessels there is because it flips 90 degrees to turn itself into a research platform. RV FLIP (FLoating Instrument Platform) is an open ocean research vessel owned by the Office of Naval Research and operated by the Marine Physical Laboratory of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The ship is 335 feet long and 700 tons of of amazing engineering. As you might imagine, the ship is frequently mistaken for a capsized ocean transport ship.
