Mechanical Mule technology continues to progress as you’ll see in this clip from the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL) and researchers from DARPA’s LS3 program. They demonstrate new advances in the robot’s control, stability and maneuverability, including “Leader Follow” decision making, enhanced roll recovery, exact foot placement over rough terrain, the ability to maneuver in an urban environment, and verbal command capability. I had to laugh at the stream crossing part though as I have personally experienced the exact same scenario as the mule did in the woods of Quantico except my recovery wasn’t as graceful. To see a real USMC War Horse watch Sgt. Reckless.
