A Pileated Woodpecker hard at work making a cavity for a home in a dead tree that had been topped and left standing. This particular woodpecker had his eye on this tree for several months and would visit occasionally. One day he got serious about moving in and the photographer was able to capture the process of the woodpecker at work.
