The hills might be alive with the sound of music but one square inch of the forest is alive with the sound of silence. At least it was until Gordon Hempton came hiking into test how silent this area of Washington’s Hoh rainforest is. Reminds me of the saying about a tree falling in the woods. I am grateful to live in the Blue Ridge Mountains now where the aircraft generally stay above 30,000 feet so their noise is minimized and I can hear the sound of silence more often.
